Sometimes it's all just a quirk of fate. Tonight, rather than living it up and emptying out my already-depleting bank account, I thought I'd stay in, take in a few DVDs, catch up on a little light reading, and partake in a little old-fashioned online competition, in the form of scrabulous.com.
*Of course* scrabulous.com has just been shut down.
Yesterday.
Seriously.
I've not visited the site for about two months, so I wouldn't have known about the whole "one day we're here, the next we're not" thing beforehand. Instead, I try to access the page, get a lame-o GoDaddy splash screen, and quickly proceed to the information stand-by, Wikipedia.
According to that bastion of popular knowledge:
"The original web site appears to have shut down as of 25 September 2008. Users attempting to access it are advised "The site is taking a coffee break. Sorry for the inconvenience".
As of 26 September 2008, the scrabulous.com site had been fully replaced with a GoDaddy.com placeholder page."
I have impeccable timing, n'est pas?
So, please take a moment to bid a fond farewell to that scrappy underdog, scrabulous.com. You fought the battle well, but not well enough.
I guess I'll be stuck playing Free Cell tonight.
